AUSTIN, Texas, April 29, 2016 -- BOXX Technologies, the leading innovator of high-performance computer workstations and rendering systems, today announced their designation as a platinum sponsor of the University of Wisconsin BadgerLoop Team, UW-Madison students selected by SpaceX to compete in the first-ever Hyperloop Pod Competition to be held this summer. Hyperloop is a fast transportation technology designed to revolutionize modern transit. Throughout the project, the team is relying on a pair of state-of-the-art APEXX workstations provided by BOXX.
"The BOXX workstations have been incredibly useful for our team," said Duncan Adams, BadgerLoop Technical Director. "Teams line up to run their structural, magnetics, and multiphyiscs simulations because it's now faster to wait for other teams to complete a day-long simulation than it is to run them on the school-provided hardware."
Since its proposal by SpaceX CEO/CTO Elon Musk in 2013, Hyperloop technology has evolved beyond a futuristic concept into a near-future, new world standard for high-speed transportation efficiency. Hyperloop design consists of a levitating pod traveling at nearly 760 miles per hour through an evacuated steel tube where low pressure minimizes drag forces and contact-less magnetic levitation further diminishes energy loss. As one of 30 international design teams chosen for the Hyperloop Pod Competion, the BadgerLoop team includes both STEM and business majors, as well as accomplished academic and industry advisors. During the final competition weekend, the team will present and test a scaled prototype at a mile-long test track with the primary goal of producing a fail-safe, passenger-friendly, scalable prototype that successfully levitates throughout the length of the track. During the design process, the addition of the BOXX APEXX workstations has been instrumental to the team's workflow.
"After receiving the BOXX workstations, we quickly set up our CAD programs and simulations software," said BadgerLoop Mechanical Lead Austin Jeffries. "Working on much less capable computers before, the BOXX systems are enabling us to increase our workflow, accomplish tasks faster, and improve our design at a much faster pace so we're ready for this summer's competition."
The team's new BOXX workstations consist of an eight-core APEXX 4 7402 and a four-core APEXX 2 2401. Both systems feature liquid-cooled, overclocked Intel® Core™ i7 processors and NVIDIA Quadro graphics, making them ideal for single-threaded engineering applications like Dassault Systèmes SOLIDWORKS.
"For over 20 years, engineers, architects, and motion media professionals have benefited from BOXX innovation," said Shoaib Mohammad, BOXX VP of Marketing and Business Development. "We're proud to sponsor the young innovators of the BadgerLoop Team by providing them with the power and performance they need to succeed in this competition and help lay the foundation for a new mode of transportation."
