LONDON, Feb. 26, 2018 -- The BBVA group is rapidly emerging as one to beat when it comes to mobile banking and the digital banking experience. Its Mexican arm, BBVA Bancomer, has scooped up two awards in the latest edition of the World Finance Banking Awards, where it was awarded the title for both Best Digital Bank in Mexico, 2017 and Best Mobile Banking App in Mexico, 2017.
In recent times, the BBVA group has dedicated serious resources to developing the ideal digital and mobile banking experience. Today, it has a team of 1,500 engineers and digital experts, which have been put to the task of modernising the way that its customers approach banking.
The result is a global mobile platform, which transforms banking undertakings into more enjoyable and intuitive exercises. Over the past few years, the platform has repeatedly been celebrated as the best in the business.
BBVA Bancomer is the largest bank in Mexico, making up over 20 percent of the national market. Its digital-forward strategy is successfully tapping into a population that is becoming increasingly mobile savvy.
Over the past year, innovations for Mexican customers, such as its ‘Virtual spending pockets’ functionality and its BBVA Send and BBVA Plan savings application have set the bank aside from others in the sector.
BBVA Bancomer’s digital strategy is also underpinned by timely acquisitions. Last April, the company purchased the Mexican payments start-up Openpay, in a move that is set to strengthen the bank’s online payments functionality.
The digital approach is paying off, with BBVA’s latest financial results showing that the group’s profits in Mexico are up by 15.3 percent year-on-year.
