New York City, New York, April 24, 2018 -- CipherHealth, a leading innovator in automating manual processes in healthcare to deliver a more consistent patient experience and outcome, today announced an expansion of their relationship with the University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System (UAB), a recognized world leader in healthcare. Following a successful launch and deployment at UAB’s Birmingham campus, Medical West, a Bessemer, Alabama hospital that is part of the UAB Health System, will now use CipherHealth’s technology to better engage and manage their patient’s expectations and experience.

Due to evolving changes in how payers reimburse providers and a rapid rise in consumer access to quality and cost data, providers must focus on quality, cost and experience. “Patients are assuming more financial responsibility for their healthcare decisions and they have more options than ever before. Our goal with this solution is to identify and resolve service issues more quickly and use the analytics to help us predict and prevent issues from even occurring in the future. The CipherHealth solution will eliminate many of the manual steps that were required to identify, communicate and resolve issues in the past”, says Keith Pennington, CEO of Medical West.
CipherHealth does this by gathering a combination of historical and self-reported patient data to create a highly personalized experience and better overall outcome. The platform integrates with the hospital’s existing technologies and incorporates self-reported patient data to identify and address service issues in real time. If a patient identifies with having medication questions, pharmacy is alerted in real time, eliminating inefficiencies for staff and delays for patients.
Chris Brainard, UAB’s Senior Director of Patient Experience, says “For established patients of our Health System, the technology remembers environmental and clinical preferences based on their previous encounters and follows that patient from one hospital to the others within the system. For example, CipherHealth can track whether a patient requires a special diet or mobility support and then incorporates those needs into the patient’s admission plan during their next encounter at any of our owned or affiliated hospitals.”
“CipherHealth is thrilled to be an integral part of UAB’s mission to innovate as healthcare shifts away from volume to value,” said Alex Henjonez, co-founder of CipherHealth. “We see our technology and service as a way to scale engagement and outreach while allowing health systems to apply their human capital to those patients who need it the most”.
UAB is one of many leading healthcare systems to partner with CipherHealth.
Health systems who partner with CipherHealth have seen a rate of quality improvement (HCAHPS) that is two times the national average rate of improvement. CipherHealth has customers in forty states and has been ranked #1 in KLAS within its respective category for the past two years in a row.
