Apple Vision Pro Needs Four Iterations for Ideal Form, Apple Investigates Watch Issues

Apple's Vision Pro headset in development, aiming for lighter, more efficient future iterations.

Certain members of Apple's Vision Products Group believe that four consecutive iterations of the device may be required to achieve the "ideal form" of the Apple Vision Pro headset. Bloomberg correspondent Mark Gurman, who maintains extensive connections, asserts that.

Apple Vision Pro Needs Four Iterations for Ideal Form, Apple Investigates Watch Issues

Gurman writes in his most recent Power On newsletter that some members of the Apple headpiece development team believe the device still requires significant refinement before it can be deemed suitable for consumers to use in their daily lives.

Based on the MacRumors report, it is possible to deduce what Apple's development team perceives as the "ideal form" of the device by examining the experiences of early adopters who encountered hardware and software complications with the first-generation device.

Considered by a significant number of Vision Pro users to be excessively cumbersome and weighty to use for extended periods, generational miniaturization is an essential benchmark for development. Other criticisms of visionOS have included inadequate battery life, a shortage of specialized applications, and an abundance of flaws.

The Vision Pro, according to Gurman, could eventually supplant the iPad if Apple's development team can resolve these issues throughout four iterations, mirroring the progression of the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.

Gurman states that Apple's efforts to position the iPad as a Mac replacement have produced "mixed results." iPad users are currently positioned in a purgatory among Apple's other products, despite the company's attempts to transform it into a true productivity workhorse akin to the Mac through the addition of Stage Manager and other multitasking features. "The device lost its original purpose and has become a more confusing piece of Apple's product portfolio," according to Gurman.

Gurman adds that "further hardware upgrades, a slew of software updates, and significantly better support from app developers and content creators will be required to transform the $3,500 Vision Pro headset into the iPad replacement that it is capable of becoming." "Until then, the Vision Pro is essentially a prototype — just one where you have to pay Apple for the privilege of testing it out."

Apple Is Examining a 'Ghost Touches' Complication That Affects Certain Series 9 and Ultra 2 Watches

In an internal memo distributed to Apple Authorized Service Providers, Apple stated that it is "aware of" and "investigating" a touch-related issue that affects specific Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 displays.

Apple's memo, obtained by MacRumors, states, "Some customers may report that their Apple Watch Series 9 or Apple Watch Ultra 2 is experiencing false touches on the display." Apple noted that some consumers could describe the issue as "ghost" touches.

Apple states that the screens of the affected Apple Watch models may "jump erratically" or display other unanticipated behaviors without user interaction. The memorandum further states that the vulnerability may inadvertently initiate a phone call on an Apple Watch and impede users from inputting the passcode for the device.

By advising users to maintain the software on their Apple Watches, Apple expresses optimism that the concern will be resolved in a subsequent watchOS update. Apple did not mention the issue's scope or a potential resolution timeframe. The possible contribution of defective hardware remains uncertain.

Technicians are prohibited from repairing affected Apple Watch models while Apple investigates. Technicians are instructed to request affected customers to perform a hard restart of their Apple Watch by simultaneously depressing the side button and Digital Crown for a minimum of 10 seconds or until the Apple logo appears.

The Series 9 and Ultra 2 iterations of the Apple Watch were introduced last September 2023.
