Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) shares climbed as much as 1.6% on Wednesday afternoon after a Bloomberg News report revealed that the tech giant is preparing a major overhaul of Siri, signaling Apple’s most significant move yet into the generative artificial intelligence market dominated by OpenAI and Google.
According to the report, Apple is developing an advanced AI chatbot internally codenamed “Campos,” which is expected to replace the existing Siri interface across Apple devices. The new chatbot will be deeply integrated into iPhone, iPad, and Mac operating systems, allowing users to interact with it through the same familiar methods used for Siri today, such as voice commands or pressing hardware buttons.
The upcoming AI-powered Siri chatbot is designed to deliver a far more conversational and interactive experience. Unlike the current version of Siri, which offers limited back-and-forth communication, the new system will reportedly function more like ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini, featuring a chat-style interface and the ability to hold natural, context-aware conversations. This marks a significant leap forward in Apple’s virtual assistant capabilities and positions the company more competitively in the rapidly evolving AI assistant space.
Bloomberg sources noted that Apple plans to roll out an interim update to Siri that does not include chatbot functionality as part of iOS 26.4, expected in the coming months. However, the full generative AI chatbot experience is anticipated to be officially unveiled at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June, with a broader public release targeted for September.
The chatbot will support both voice and text input and is reportedly the centerpiece of Apple’s next-generation software lineup. It is expected to debut alongside iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, operating system updates that will otherwise focus largely on performance enhancements, stability improvements, and bug fixes rather than sweeping design changes.
This strategic move underscores Apple’s growing commitment to artificial intelligence and could have long-term implications for user engagement, ecosystem loyalty, and investor confidence as competition in the AI space continues to intensify.
