Aside from the announcement of “Alita: Battle Angel 2,” movie fans have another thing to think about concerning its future plot. The first movie had a tragic ending with Alita’s (Rosa Salazar) only love, Hugo (Keean Johnson), facing his demise. However, there are certain details in Hugo’s final scenes that begs the question if there is ever a chance for him to return in the sequel.

‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’ spoilers: What happened to Hugo?

As mentioned, the 2019 live-action movie is based on a manga series titled “Battle Angel Alita.” There were several plot details from the manga that were changed in the movie. In the source material, Alita was also deeply in love with Hugo, but he does not share the same feelings for her.

The manga version of Hugo was so focused on delivering Vector’s (Mahershala Ali in the movie) orders, so he can earn a ticket to Zalem. That even meant using Alita’s abilities as a hunter-warrior. However, the movie presented a more romantic relationship between the characters that only made its ending more tragic. It is then understandable if movie fans are rooting for Hugo’s return in “Alita: Battle Angel 2” – that is if Disney and 20th Century Fox ever decide to order a sequel.

‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’ plot predictions: Could Hugo still be alive?

After Alita killed Vector, Hugo escaped bounty hunters by trying to climb up to Zalem. But the giant spiked ring got to him and dismembered his new cyborg body. Alita managed to grab Hugo, and he was still conscious despite only having a half body at this point. However, his arm holding on to Alita later broke resulting in his fall. But the sequence, interestingly, did not show Hugo dropping dead. What does this say about “Alita: Battle Angel 2”?

In movies and TV shows, not seeing a character’s corpse would often mean a possibility for a surprise return in later installments. “Alita: Battle Angel 2” could use this same strategy and apply massive plot changes from the manga by bringing Hugo back in some capacity. It was also curious that Alita told Hugo she loves him, but Hugo was no longer able to say it back.
