With the 2024 U.S. presidential election approaching, Donald Trump is gaining overwhelming support from Israel, as a recent survey revealed that 58% of Israelis believe Trump would better safeguard their nation's security compared to just 20% for Kamala Harris. If given the chance to vote in the U.S. election, 54% of Israelis said they would back Trump, while only 24% would choose Harris, with the remainder abstaining.
Israelis Favor Trump Over Harris for National Security
A significant portion of Israelis are leaning toward Trump for the 2024 election, largely due to his perceived ability to bolster the nation’s security. A recent poll highlights a substantial gap between the two candidates: 58% of Israelis said Trump would be better for Israel’s security, while only 20% said the same about Vice President Harris. This stark contrast reflects the strong ties Trump established with Israel during his presidency, particularly after recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moving the U.S. embassy there in 2018.
Why Israelis Prefer Trump
Many Israelis still remember Trump's pro-Israel stance, which included the Abraham Accords, normalizing relations between Israel and several Arab nations. His decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Iran nuclear deal also won him significant support within Israel, as many view Iran as an existential threat. Harris, by contrast, has not garnered the same level of trust or confidence regarding Middle Eastern security policies.
An Israeli political commentator told Life & Style Magazine, “For Israelis, security is paramount. Trump’s past decisions, particularly his strong opposition to Iran, make him a much more favorable candidate.”
Trump's Popularity Reflects in Hypothetical Israeli Vote
If Israelis were allowed to cast their ballots in the 2024 U.S. election, Trump would win by a wide margin, according to the same poll. A decisive 54% would vote for Trump, while 24% would support Harris. The remaining 22% indicated they would abstain or were undecided. This hypothetical vote highlights Trump’s enduring popularity in Israel, which has been consistently high since his presidency.
Harris Struggles to Gain Trust
Despite serving as Vice President under Joe Biden, Harris has struggled to connect with Israeli voters, who remain wary of her stance on foreign policy and security. Some critics argue that her involvement in the Biden administration’s efforts to re-enter the Iran nuclear deal has further alienated Israelis, who view the agreement as a threat to their safety.
“Many Israelis feel that Harris hasn’t shown the same dedication to Israel’s security as Trump,” an insider told Life & Style. “Trump’s legacy of standing firm with Israel resonates deeply here, and that’s what people want.”
Israeli Public Opinion and the U.S. Election
While Israelis have no say in the U.S. election, their overwhelming support for Trump underscores the significance of foreign policy in the broader geopolitical landscape. As the U.S. prepares for its next election, Trump’s pro-Israel policies from his previous term continue to bolster his image abroad, particularly in nations like Israel, where national security is a top priority.
