Apple may have been obliged to tweak its springtime product launch plans, but the tech giant might soon surprise fans with the announcement of two iPhone 9 models. The widely rumored entry-level device, also commonly called iPhone SE 2, has allegedly entered mass production it time for a summer release.
iPhone 9 specs, models: Entry-level device to arrive in 2 variants, report claims
Rumors about Apple’s next mid-range smartphone started in the latter months of 2019, and more insider reports emerged in recent months. But what is only being reported now is that iPhone 9 would be having a Plus version.
9To5Mac claims to have uncovered a piece of evidence from an iOS 14 code that points to the release of an iPhone 9 Plus model. Not much is known about the larger device, but it is safe to assume that it would resemble some design specifications of the iPhone 8 Plus.
In previous months, tech reporters have started making the case for the upcoming device to be named iPhone 9 instead of iPhone SE 2. The upcoming smartphone has been reported to sport the same form factor as iPhone 8 that has also shed light on its other potential features. This might also apply to the iPhone 9 Plus model, which could mean it has a physical home button and a 5.5-inch screen while the base version has a 4.7-inch display.
With the iPhone 9 expected to have a physical home button and a budget-friendly price tag, it is very likely to depend on Touch ID for its authentication feature. The iPhone 9 series would still be an upgrade from the iPhone 8 series as it is anticipated to be powered by the A13 Bionic chip.
iPhone 9 release date: Mass production begins in time for a launch in June?
Apple was initially rumored to announce the iPhone 9 this month, along with other new products. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced many businesses to close indefinitely and large events to be canceled. The latter might have applied in Apple’s case.
Meanwhile, well-known leaker Jon Prosser reported on Wednesday that the mass production of the iPhone 9 has just started. Apple also reportedly “spread out production” to various assembly plants to “move faster” suggesting that the device could be launched very soon.

????????????????????
Some fans are speculating that the iPhone 9 might be included in the Worldwide Developers Conference announcements in June. However, it is also not impossible for Apple to release the device as early as April or May through a simple web refresh and press release just like it did for the new iPad Pro this week.
