Claire has worked as a researcher, educator, policy maker, academic and senior administrator. Currently, she is the National Director for AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) Australia.
Claire's is experienced in high level education policy development and analysis and strategy. She is experienced with building strong stakeholder relationships that link local, state and federal governments and their agencies with tertiary, school, industry and community providers.
As the National Director for AVID Australia she has won over $3million in funding to research and implement the AVID whole school improvement program in schools and tertiary institutions across Australia. There are over 40 schools across Australia implementing the AVID system to inspire whole school improvement over time. Her current research foci are in education policy creation and enactment, whole school improvement, developing ongoing, high quality professional learning programs for teachers and tertiary educators, improving student experience and engagement, working with teachers, leadership and students from diverse and disadvantaged areas to improve access and achievement from school to tertiary settings.
Previous research includes early work in developing professional teaching standards in an Australia context. She has researched the use of video and online learning technologies to reconceptualise pedagogy and curriculum, and the use of video to exemplify and evaluate aspects of teaching standards.
Claire was Chief Investigator for the OLT project, Professional development program to embed inclusive and explicit teaching practices in higher education first year units (2016), and the online delivery of the findings and video component of the effective early years literacy teaching research project, In Teachers’ Hands.
