Senior Lecturer in Medieval History, Nottingham Trent University
My Phd was published as Women, Crusading and the Holy Land in Historical Narrative in 2007, and as a senior lecturer at NTU I have continued to research and write on issues relating to religion, violence, gender and social status in the Middle Ages. I am currently working on a monograph (Gendering the Crusades) and two essay collections (Crusading Masculinities and Sources for the Crusades). As part of my work on crusading masculinities I have written articles on Honour and Shame, Norman identity and clerical masculinities, but I am interested in all aspects of history with a focus on religious conflict, clash of cultures, social relationships and historical writing. I am the director of the Centre for the Study of Religion and Conflict in Medieval and Early Modern Periods at NTU. I edit the journal Nottingham Medieval Studies and the book series Themes in Medieval and Early Modern History (Routledge).
Warning: this article contains spoilers about Game of Thrones, series eight, episode three… The climactic ending to the most recent episode of Game of Thrones, in which Arya Stark appears in the very nick of time...
