We live in a deeply interconnected and complex world where it is vital that Americans understand the dynamics and challenges of globalization and can deal with diverse cultures and peoples. Enhanced geographic literacy, knowledge about different regions and global issues and trends, foreign language training, and study abroad are key components to being an educated and internationally aware person in the 21st century. Moreover, the better we understand the outside world, the deeper our understanding of America - our institutions, values, and culture.
