I've been interested in human behaviour for some time. I've spent most of my academic career applying behavioural theories to change behaviour in tourism contexts, where it is arguably much easier to influence behaviour than in habitual contexts such as at work and at home. However, I've recently accepted a position to head up a new research initiative called BehaviourWorks, based at the Monash Sustainability Institute, which brings together researchers from a wide range of disciplines to tackle sustainability issues where human behaviour is part of the solution. This has involved expanding from tourism to also looking at much harder-to-influence behaviours that occur at work and at home.
