Jane Street's $1B Bitcoin ETF Haul: Market-Making Power Play, Not a Wild Bet

In its second-quarter Form 13F filing, Jane Street revealed over $1.06 billion in U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF holdings as of June 30, 2026. From the previous quarter, when holdings had been cut by some 71 percent, this indicates a strong rebound of almost $630 million. Black Rock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) held the largest position, about $828 million, with the remaining distributed among Grayscale's Bitcoin Trust, Fidelity's Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund, and other spot items. At current costs, the stake represented exposure of about 15,394 BTC.

Given the company's authorized participant and market maker status, the huge inventory of ETF shares is justified not by any unhedged directional bet on Bitcoin's price. These assets enable redemption and creative acts that maintain ETF liquidity for customers. The sharp first-quarter drop and subsequent recovery shows how Jane Street's holdings change in response to trade flow and liquidity needs instead of long-term belief.

Beyond Bitcoin, Jane Street also showed significant interest in XRP ETFs, such Bitwise's vehicle, and kept active in Ether ETF products. This pattern shows the growing presence of the company in the bigger crypto ETF scene. The filing generally highlights institutional infrastructure development in digital-asset markets and reiterates that Jane Street's exposure helps operational demands more than naked speculation.
