The previous years proved that The Game Awards is not just strictly about naming handing out awards to the best video games released over the last 12 months. It has also been a favorite venue for many companies to announce upcoming projects or launch new gameplay trailers. It now appears that Xbox may have some plans later this week.
What could Xbox announce?
The speculations on a potential Xbox announcement are not unfounded, and there many possible projects that Microsoft could highlight during TGA. For one, it could be a more comprehensive look into the much-awaited “Gears 5” DLC that has been announced to launch before the end of the year. Developer The Coalition has yet to reveal details about the story expansion but teased that its title “Hivebusters” says enough about it.
Some fans are also hoping that Xbox would announce something about the first project of its new studio The Initiative. Microsoft has made considerable efforts in introducing the studio that is said to produce “AAAA” video games in the future.
Fans are also considering the likelihood of a major Xbox Game Pass announcement on Thursday. The cloud gaming service is one of the main priorities of the company right now and much of its plans for years to come have been associated with it.
Xbox releases more TGA 2020 teasers
Microsoft has not specifically said there will be an announcement at TGA this week, but the hints it has been giving are difficult to ignore. The first clue fans noticed was included as parting words in the Xbox Game Pass December lineup and was too generic to mean anything. But gamers still found it interesting the Microsoft chose to end it with: “See you at the Game Awards friends!”
That was not much to go on. But fans found another reason to believe Xbox has some announcements lined up this week as confirmed by well-known video games journalist Jeff Grubb in a stream for GamesBeat last week. Xbox seems to further hype up the event with a tweet on Monday. “To everyone ‘unavailable’ on Thursday....we see you,” the online post reads.
Note that TGA is the only big thing happening for the video games industry on Thursday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. EST. Live streaming will be available through various platforms, including YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, Facebook, and Steam.
