With only a few weeks left before the initially set release date of “World of Warcraft: Shadowlands” expansion, Blizzard had announced that there will be a change of plans. As a result, the developer has started sending notices to its paying customers about the option to refund their game purchase.
‘World of Warcraft: Shadowlands’ release date: When will it be released
“World of Warcraft: Shadowlands” was supposed to be released on Oct. 27 until the delay was announced last week. The change in release date was confirmed a few weeks since the expansion’s beta was opened to invited players.
In the official statement, executive producer John Hight said, “As everything started coming together and we’ve been listening to and building upon your feedback, it’s become clear we need a little more time for additional polish, and to balance and iterate on some interlocking pieces—particularly those related to the endgame.” Hight did not mention a new specific release date but said the expansion is still planned for release this year.
Now, Reddit user enterthedragonpunch shared a screenshot of a Blizzard email to remind them that a refund is an option amid the “World of Warcraft: Shadowlands” delay. The expansion has been available for pre-purchase starting at the base edition for $39.99. The Heroic and Epic editions are also available and come with in-game exclusive items including a flying mount, pet, weapon effect, and character boost for cost $59.99 and $79.99, respectively.
‘World of Warcraft: Shadowlands’ refunds and WoW subscription cancellation
Other fans responding to the Reddit post said they do not intend to refund their “World of Warcraft: Shadowlands” purchase because delays are usually a good indication that the developers are taking the time to polish the game. However, some players have a different concern -- the paid subscription the purchased in anticipation of the expansion’s launch later this month.
Some players shared that they just bought the WoW Subscription to secure game time for the release of “World of Warcraft: Shadowlands” supposedly on Oct. 27. While others have advised that there is a way to pause the membership meter and re-activate it once the expansion is out, it appears that the more certain way to avoid wasted subscription is to cancel it altogether. A player who said they paid for the six-month membership ($12.99) was able to get a refund and cancel the subscription.
