United Airlines has big plans for its future, and after the announcement of its order for 270 Boeing and Airbus jets, it was revealed that it is also planning to hire 25,000 employees by 2026.
The latest hiring spree was disclosed on Tuesday, June 29, and the new jobs are said to be more than a 36% increase in the company’s workforce. The massive orders of plane units and hiring are part of the scheme to get back on track as the worst part of the COVID-19 pandemic seems to be fading away already.
The crew at United Airlines
As per CNBC, the airline currently has around 68,000 unionized workers, and the new job openings will obviously boost this number to accommodate the needs and better serve the customers in the future.
What’s more, apart from the 270 orders of Boeing and Airbus planes that were just announced this week, United Airlines has plans to add 500 units more in the coming years. This will come with new interiors and amenities, which are all for the convenience and comfort of the customers as well.
At any rate, the 25,000 jobs that United Airlines will open are for positions in the company’s various locations and offices. As posted in the report, 5,000 jobs will be available in Newark and New Jersey while 4,000 are required in San Francisco, and 3,000 job posts are needed to be filled in each state that includes Chicago, Washington Dulles, Los Angeles, and Denver.
"Our United Next vision will revolutionize the experience of flying United as we accelerate our business to meet a resurgence in air travel," Scott Kirby, United Airlines chief executive officer, said in a press release. "By adding and upgrading this many aircraft so quickly with our new signature interiors, we'll combine friendly, helpful service with the best experience in the sky, all across our premier global network.”
The positions to be filled at United
The airline will definitely hire new pilots and cabin crews for the new planes. On the ground, it will hire reservations agents, customer service agents, dispatchers, and technicians.
Flight attendants for old and new planes are needed plus the airline is surely looking for other staff in the management too. Fox Business reported that with the addition of new employees, the airline may have to spend up to $12 billion for wages annually.
