Israeli airstrikes in Gaza killed at least three Palestinians on Sunday, including two members of the Hamas-run police force, according to local health officials. The latest violence has raised fresh concerns about the stability of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire that has remained under pressure since it began in October 2025.
Medical sources reported that one person died in an Israeli strike targeting the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza. Another airstrike in Khan Younis reportedly killed Wessam Abdel-Hadi, the head of Gaza’s criminal police force, along with his assistant. Gaza’s Hamas-run interior ministry confirmed the deaths.
The Israeli military did not immediately release a statement regarding the incidents. However, previous reports from Reuters indicated that Israel has intensified operations against Gaza’s Hamas-controlled police and security units. Israeli officials believe these forces have played a key role in helping Hamas restore administrative control in several parts of the territory.
Despite the ceasefire agreement reached in October 2025, violence between Israel and Hamas has continued almost daily. Palestinian health officials say at least 850 Palestinians have been killed since the truce took effect. Israel, meanwhile, claims that militant groups in Gaza have killed four Israeli soldiers during the same period.
Both Israel and Hamas have repeatedly accused each other of violating the ceasefire terms, increasing fears that the fragile agreement could collapse entirely. International mediators, including the United States, have continued diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation in the region.
The conflict, which began in October 2023, has caused widespread devastation across Gaza. According to Gaza health authorities, more than 72,500 Palestinians have been killed since the war started, with civilians accounting for the majority of the casualties. The ongoing humanitarian crisis has drawn global concern as fighting and instability continue across the Gaza Strip.
