Starbucks outlets often receive off-the-menu drinks that baristas blend according to the customer’s preferences. Some of these unique orders even trended on social media a while back because there are drink blend requests that are really complicated to make.
Starbucks to boost customized drink orders
As the drinks went viral online, some customers wonder if they can also try ordering the same customized drinks in stores. It seems that Starbucks is aware of this because it has taken steps that will make it easier for patrons to order custom beverages that they see on social media.
In fact, it was reported that the popular coffee chain has started to test out a system that will allow people to order off-menu beverages without so much hassle. As per the Business Insider, the company launched a limited test this week, and people can order two custom drinks via Instagram or Facebook.
For easy purchases, customers just need to find Starbucks images on social media platforms. Simply swipe the image, and customers will be re-directed and given access to a special Starbucks webpage. Once on the site, they can now place an order.
“The test will make it easier for customers to order a beverage they see on social media, streamlining the process and saving you time while allowing the customer to order the drink they want even if they don't know how to order it in ‘Starbuckian,’" the company reportedly stated in a memo for workers.
The Starbucks ordering test for custom drinks
As the ordering for special drinks that are not on the menu started to gain more attention, and more people are trying it out, the coffee company made a way to make things easier for them. The testing for the ordering system for special beverages has already started on June 29.
For the test run, customers can buy either Iced Matcha Latte with Chai or Pink Drink Remixed. The former became popular on TikTok last year when a customer posted her matcha-chai Starbucks drink combination.
"We know that there is this rise in customized beverages," Sanja Gould, Starbucks spokeswoman, told CNN Business. "Anything that we can do to help the [employee] and customer experience, we definitely want to do."
