While the liberals all around the world protest US President Donald Trump’s executive order signed last Saturday that halts immigration from seven war-torn Muslim-majority countries in the Middle East and North Africa, several key Muslim countries have either remained silent or supported Mr. trump’s proposals. A majority of the media painted the order as a Muslim ban despite no mention of religion in the order. Key Muslim majority countries in the Gulf; Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, BaBahrainand the United Arab Emirates have not used words to show any displeasure against the ban. United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed said on Wednesday that it was a sovereign decision for the United States and not directed at any religion. Dhahi Khalfan, a senior Dubai police official, tweeted on Monday his complete support of the ban. Only Qatar delivered a minor disapproval by urging the Trump administration to reassess it. As Trump hardens its stance against Iran, the regional rivals are cheering. These countries were displeased with the Obama administration as according to them, it was too soft on Iran.
In Indonesia, which is a Muslim majority country, Joko Widodo’s government has shrugged off the ban and called to end the protests saying that the decision taken by the Trump administration do not affect them. Similar approach was also seen in Malaysia, which is not affected by Mr. Trump’s decision.
