Tom Selleck was revealed to have participated in the 2020 Tip Challenge as he was influenced by Donnie Wahlberg. The lucky server who got the huge tip works at Elio’s restaurant in New York.
Tom’s #TipChallenge
As per People, Tom Selleck only has a $204.68 bill, and he also left a short note for the staff. As mentioned, the 75-year-old actor left a huge $2,020 tip after his “Blue Bloods” ‘son’ stirred him to do the challenge.
"I am honoring my friend Donnie Wahlberg's 'Tip Challenge' with my sincere hope for a better 2020," Tom’s note to the staff reads. In response, Donnie took to his social media account to share his “dad’s” generosity.
"I found out that my TV Dad #TomSelleck has generously accepted the #2020TipChallenge at Elios Upper East Side!" Wahlberg wrote. "Love ya dad. I didn't start it but I'm proud to be part of it. To those who gave even the smallest extra amount this year — THANK YOU.” He also added the hashtag #spreadloveandlovewillspread."
Donnie’s good deed influenced other artists
It was revealed that Donnie Wahlberg’s parents used to work in the service industry and this could be one reason why he is so generous to servers. It can be said he has the habit of surprising them with his tips since he did this not once but many times already.
In January, his wife, Jenny McCarthy, shared that her husband gave a $2,020 tip when they dined at IHOP. She posted the photo of the receipt that showed the big amount Donnie gave. In November, it was said that he also surprised another server with the same amount of tip when he dined at a restaurant in Massachusetts.
Seeing this, Harry Styles was also said to have followed suit and took part in the “tip challenge.” Just a day after Donnie and his wife left a tip at IHOP, the former One Direction singer also visited the same restaurant but in the Anguilla branch and left the same tip.
At any rate, after Tom Selleck’s tip made news, the people who started it all was mentioned was again. Based on the report, it was Danielle Franzoni, a single mom who has been homeless for a year was the first to receive a $2,020 tip back in January from a couple who dined at the Michigan restaurant she works in. Since then, celebrities have been doing the same.
