As a show that is known for having some of the most talented and hugely watchable performers, the news that “This Is Us” Season 3 will add a new series regular is a big deal. The new addition is Melanie Liburd who was a guest star at the end of last season and played the character, Zoe. It would seem that she is going to be staying on as Kevin’s (Justin Hartley) future girlfriend.
In the finale of the show’s second season, it looked like Zoe and Kevin really hit it off. As such, it wasn’t surprising that the two characters were seen in a flash-forward riding on a plane as a couple, TV Insider reports. This makes her stay for “This Is Us” Season 3 an extended affair, though, there’s no telling until when this will be.
Speaking to the publication, co-showrunner Isaac Aptaker says "our storylines are going to catch up to all of those [flash-forward scenes from the Season 2 finale] over the course of this year." This means that the airplane scene is going to happen in “This Is Us” Season 3. This should result in some interesting developments for the characters.
It would also seem that “This Is Us” Season 3 will be featuring the experiences of Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) when he was in Vietnam during the war, Deadline notes. In order to make sure that the details presented by the show are as authentic as possible, writer Tim O’Brien was brought in to consult. As a Vietnam journalist and the author of “The Things They Carried,” the show’s portrayal of the era should be something to see with his input.
“This Is Us” Season 3 is set to premiere on Sept. 25. It’s going to be a revelatory season where the family’s children will attempt to get to know their father more as their adult versions.
