“The Winds of Winter” is still in the works even if HBO’s “Game of Thrones” is already over. The HBO drama was based on George RR Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novel series, and “TWOW” is the penultimate book. However, he has yet to release it even after almost eight years of waiting.
It has been years, and many fans are already frustrated at this point, and Martin knows this very well. He knows that there are fans who are impatient and demanding for him to finish “The Winds of Winter” and while the author knows that they want him to write faster so they can have the book already, he admitted that he is having a hard time writing it especially now that he is being pressed for time.
Martin opens up about the delay of “TWOW”
In his interview with NPR, the 71-year-old author was asked if it is hard to have millions of fans waiting for the sixth book in his “ASOIAF” series, and he readily admitted that it is. He explained that he receives hundreds of messages on social media, and most of them were from fans who were asking where is “The Winds of Winter,” and this is putting so much pressure on him.
But then, he assured everyone that he himself would like to finish “The Winds of Winter” and the seventh and last book “A Dream of Spring.” “It's very important for me to finish ‘A Song of Ice and Fire.’ I want to finish it. I still have two more books to do, and I want to finish it strong,” he told the publication.
The author discusses how the delays upset him
“The Winds of Winter” is not yet done, and it has been delayed many times before too. If this infuriates the fans, George RR Martin said that he is upset as well that he even wished that his fame came when he was younger because if that is the case, he would have finished the book a long time ago.
John Kass of The Chicago Tribune interviewed the author for WGN radio, and he confessed that just like with everyone else, the delays are frustrating for him too. In fact, he revealed that completing “The Winds of Winter” is now even haunting him, even his dreams. But then, once again, he expressed his intention to finish the book even with his age and busy schedules.
“I really have to get Winds done. I have to put myself in a state where I’m not being distracted by other stuff,” he told Kass. “I still have a fair amount of energy, and I still get a fair amount done.”
