Fans want “The Winds of Winter” right now because it is already very late. In fact, it was supposed to be released at least twice since 2012, but unfortunately, George RR Martin was not able to complete the sixth book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series on time.
But then, it is not only the fans who are getting so impatient and irritated with the delay of “TWOW.” It was later learned that even GRRM himself is annoyed since the book is not out yet when the fifth book has been published in 2011. This means that the gap is already too wide - a total of nine years this year, and still, “The Winds of Winter” is not finished yet up to now.
Apparently, Martin is aware of his “sin” since he can’t fulfill his promise to release the book. He broke promises a few times already, and fans are wishing he will not break any more of his promises.
“I know there are a lot of people out there who are very angry with me that ‘The Winds of Winter’ isn’t finished,” Martin confessed to Entertainment Weekly. “And I’m mad about that myself. I wished I finished it four years ago. I wished it was finished now. But it’s not.”
GRRM announced publishing deadline
In any case, hoping that he would make amends with the fans by releasing “The Winds of Winter” as soon as possible, he made a new promise, and this can be considered as the book’s official release date. Back in May, he wrote on his blog that the much-awaited novel will be in his hands when he attends the WorldCon in New Zealand. This event was supposed to take place from July 29 to Aug. 2 so these were the assumed publishing dates.
Thus, even if the WorldCon has been canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, surely, George RR Martin will still fulfill his promise to bring “The Winds of Winter” to the bookstores on any of these dates. This is only more than two months away and everyone just needs to sit back and see if the GRRM will succeed in fulfilling his promise.
Locked down in the mountains to finish “TWOW”
Finally, as mentioned on Forbes, the 71-year-old author has voluntarily locked himself up in the mountains due to the coronavirus outbreak. While there, he is taking the opportunity to complete “The Winds of Winter.” Martin said that all he does in the cabin is write and he will probably finally finish his book as his focus is only on writing for now.
