Starz confirmed that “Power Book II: Ghost” will be back as part of the spinoffs for the “Power” drama series. The Omari Hardwick drama-starrer already ended but since the response from the public has been great, a series of sequels has been announced. 50 Cent, the show’s executive producer said before that the show is just too good to end so they have prepared short sequels instead of producing another season.
"In television history, only a select few shows have inspired four consecutive series extensions, launched into active production and development at the same time," The Hollywood Reporter quoted Starz's CEO and new president Jeffrey Hirsch as saying.
He added that the new and exciting chapters will show the life’s journey of some most controversial characters of “Power.” Hirsch further said that the drama will feature a growing ensemble of complex, distinct characters along with the high-octane drama that set the crime drama series in a class of its own.
Number of episodes and titles
“Power Book II: Ghost” will be the first in the five spinoffs that will be released separately and in succession. Initially, fans thought that each will only offer one episode but when Starz shared the promo teasers, it seems that each sequel is featuring two episodes.
As posted on Starz’s website, “Power Book II: Ghost” episode 1 is called “First Look” while the second episode has been titled “Power Universe.” The official trailer for each was uploaded as well and fans saw new characters in the new episodes.
It was already confirmed that Mary J. Blige has been signed to portray the role of a powerful businesswoman. It was reported that her character is a major one and this aligns with what showrunner Courtney Kemp has said about highlighting powerful women characters in the “Power Book II: Ghost” stories.
Plot prediction and release date
Clifford “Method Man” Smitt has been added in the cast as Davis Maclean and he is expected to work with Monet (Mary J. Blige). It was predicted that while Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.) studies in college to collect his inheritance, he will also plot to help his mother Tasha (Naturi Naughton) escape from prison.
Finally, it was mentioned that “Power Book II: Ghost” will arrive this summer which means it will be between the months of June and August.
