“Stranger Things” season 4 was renewed last year following a heartbreaking finale of the third installment. Fans are excited about the renewal announcement, but they also expressed their wish to keep Jim Hopper alive since he is believed to have died in the basement of the Starcourt shopping mall when he was trapped in the enclosure containing the machine that sealed the door to the Upside Down, and it exploded.
Now, in a teaser unveiled by Netflix, fans are rejoicing after it showed that Hopper (David Harbour) lived. However, he is not in a good situation as he appeared to be a prisoner in Russia. It is yet to be revealed in “Stranger Things” season 4 how he ended up in a country thousands of miles away from Hawkins.
Nevertheless, it was also revealed in the trailer that “Stranger Things” season 4 may not be set in Hawkins anymore, and with the details shown in the trailer, it is possible that the adventure will continue somewhere else and most likely, in Russia. Showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer also mentioned that they will be in a “snowy wasteland” this time.
"We're excited to officially confirm that production on ‘Stranger Things’ season 4 is now underway -- and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper!" Fox 5 News quoted the Duffers as saying. "Although it's not all good news for our 'American'; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human and others."
Hopper’s backstory
During the Liverpool ComiCon that took place from March 6 to 8, Harbour revealed some major spoilers. He hinted that Hopper's secrets will be divulged as his backstory is featured in “Stranger Things” season 4. At least three of his big secrets will be brought out in the open, and these could be related to the three boxes that Eleven found in their home attic, and each one was labeled with “Vietnam,” “New York” and “dad.”
"I'm so excited about revealing this aspect of the character. It's one of the things that I've known since the first frame of the first shot, and we haven't expressed it yet," the actor said. "And finally we're gonna express it in a big way.
Release date
“Stranger Things” season 4 has been filming when it was halted in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There is no update yet when the shoot will resume, so the release date is also uncertain at this time.
