‘The Walking Dead’ season 7B is set to feature Rick as he enlists the Kingdom and other communities in the war against Negan and his Saviors. Meanwhile, creator Robert Kirkman teased the future of the series hinting the possibility of more new seasons.
According to the Independent, the latest trailer for the return of ‘The Walking Dead’ on AMC hinted Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) plans for an uprising against the villainous Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his equally nefarious Saviors.
At some point in the trailer, Rick’s group is seen standing along King Ezekiel (Khary Payton) teasing Alexandria’s possible alliance with the Kingdom in the incoming episodes. Rick calls on other communities – specifically the Kingdom and Hilltop – to unite and end Negan’s terror.
However, Morgan’s Negan is confirmed to return on season 8 suggesting that the latest antagonist is yet to meet his demise in the current season.
According to Express, Kirkman addressed how long it will take for AMC’s television adaptation to catch up to the original comic book series. He revealed, "It took us six seasons to get to 100… It won't take us six years to get to 200 and that will take us to season… TWELVE. And we'll still be ahead of the show at that point."
Kirkman suggested that there may be more seasons to hit the small screen. His hint suggested that the television show may continue for at least five more seasons to cover the story from the comics the show is based on.
He revealed during a previous interview that he already knew how the story would end. He said, "I know what the end point is, and at the end of the day, I want this entire long narrative to be a complete story with a beginning, middle and end.”
Kirkman continued, “We're just spending a lot of time in the middle, so, I kind of have to know what that direct is, and I have to know what that end point is to be able to keep building towards it… I think that's the only way to keep it alive."
He explained that while he knew how Rick and the gang’s story will open up, the show’s producers will always be kept in the dark and will have no say in it. He added, "I mean, I guess to a certain extent, at this point, the comic book is kind of workshop of future seasons of the show, and it's fun to think that I can just completely torpedo the story if I wanted to."
‘The Walking Dead’ season 7B is expected to return to AMC on February 12, 2017 in the United States and to Fox on February 13, 2017 in the UK.
