Most of the details about “The Last Kingdom” season 4 are still under wraps. But there are various speculations about its release date and when the first teaser will drop. Some reports suggest it could premiere in late 2019 while others think a 2020 schedule is more plausible. Meanwhile, the first official teaser for the fourth installment is expected to arrive before the year ends.

The production time frame of season 3 might tell fans something about the release date of “The Last Kingdom” season 4. One of the earliest confirmations that the third season has been in production came from author Bernard Cornwell in March 2018. Then in May of the same year, Netflix revealed that filming for season 3 has wrapped up — about six months prior to its official premiere.

However, “The Last Kingdom” season 4 will reportedly start filming at a later time this year. SpoilerTV lists its production starting date in April. Considering that the principal filming could take around two to three months, there is a good chance that “The Last Kingdom” season 4 will only enter post-production around the summer. That leaves a relatively shorter window for a 2019 premiere and opens up a big possibility for an early 2020 premiere.

Whether “The Last Kingdom” season 4 will air in late 2019 or early 2020, OtakuKart suggests that the first official teaser could close to the start of winter this year. This is not too far-fetched since, around that time, there are likely enough contents to put together to release a decent trailer.

This historical fiction drama is based on Cornwell’s “The Saxon Stories” saga. If the flow of the story in the TV adaptation will not drastically change, “The Last Kingdom” season 4 will feature plots from the seventh and eighth books “The Pagan Lord” and “The Empty Throne.”
