‘The Flash’ season 3 recently released a new trailer introducing the Flashpoint storyline. It featured Barry Allen caught up in an alternate timeline following his travel back to the past in the season 2 finale. Meanwhile, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed that corruption by power was one of the themes for season 3 and teased that one of the characters may be going through it.
According to Comicbook.com, a new promo trailer has recently unveiled featuring the return of Grant Gustin as Barry Allen a.k.a. The Flash. The season 3 premiere, entitled “Flashpoint”, is set to introduce the Flashpoint storyline adapted from the original DC comic books.
The promo opened to Barry entering a coffee shop with his father to which he asks what year they might be in. He is obviously confused as to what was happening around him. Dr. Alchemy, season 3’s latest villain, is also seen briefly.
Barry then attempts to explain his conundrum stating that he went back in time to accidentally create “a whole new existence.” In the preceding season’s finale, entitled "The Race of His Life", Barry traveled back to the past to save his mother from death at the hands of Reverse-Flash unwittingly setting up turmoil in the real world’s timeline. The incoming season will directly follow its events.
Gustin revealed during a previous interview that season 3 will not only focus on Flashpoint. However, it could leave permanent marks on the series. According to Fan Bolt, Gustin revealed, “[Barry’s] memories are being replaced from that timeline with new memories […] but those memories are replacing stuff that he had with Joe and Iris, and Caitlyn and Cisco, and when Barry starts to realize that, that’s not okay with him.”
Meanwhile, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg teased that the incoming season will tackle power and corruption from said power. According to Entertainment Weekly, Kreisberg admitted that Barry will continue to have superpowers adding, “One of the themes is what does it mean to have power, what you do with that power, and is power ultimately corrupting?”
It was speculated that Barry will somehow emerge as a villain after being corrupted by his desires. However, it may also be that the producer was referring to Sativar, who became more obsessed the further along he was with his studies of speed and velocity.
‘The Flash’ is an action-mystery and superhero television series based on the comic book character of the same name. The series is part of The CW’s shared fictional universe called the “Arrowverse” together with ‘Arrow’ and ‘Legends of Tomorrow’.
Season 3 is scheduled to air on The CW on October 4, 2016.
