‘The Blacklist' Season 6 Air Date, Spoilers: Is Red an Impostor or Not? Theories on His Real Identity

The Blacklist

“The Blacklist” season 6 is set to air with a big mystery to solve. The last installment ended with a cliffhanger that left the viewers asking about Red’s real identity. Is he really an impostor?

Various theories have popped up on who he could be since the show was renewed back in May. As per Deadline, “The Blacklist” season 6 has been ordered by NBC to do another 22 episodes for this installment.

Mr. Kaplan (Susan Blommaert) found humans bones and they were sent to Elizabeth "Liz" Keen (Megan Boone). She was not ready when it was revealed that they belonged to Raymond "Red" Reddington (James Spader), who also turned out to be her father.

Initially, they thought that the bones were the remains of Liz’s mother Katarina (Lotte Verbeek), who everyone thought was already dead. However, after some tests, it was determined that they belonged to Red. So, does this mean that the Red that everyone knows is a fake?

Is Red Not the Real Red?

Showrunner Jon Bokenkamp did not deny or confirm the theory saying that the present Raymond Reddington is someone else. He shared that the idea that the current Red is an impostor is actually the most talked about topic among the fans of “The Blacklist.”

Bokenkamp could not deny or confirm this because it was the truth all along. In his interview with Entertainment Weekly, he was asked if Red was an impostor, and he said, “Yeah, this is something that we’ve talked about from the inception of the show. It is part of the underlying mythology that we’ve slowly been unraveling.”

James Spader also knows about this aspect of his role. “James has known and it’s something we’ve talked extensively about. The cast did not know, as far as I know,” the showrunner revealed.

Theories

There is a chance that the dead Red is not Liz’s father since some things might have gone wrong during the testing. After all, the DNA sample was taken from a really long time ago so there could have been an error during the process. Also, it was mentioned that Liz has forgotten an important detail which could have led to the mistaken result of the dead Red being her father.

Another theory for “The Blacklist” season 6 is that there is a chance that the dead Red is actually the fake Red’s twin brother and he is keeping this a secret because he wants people to think that there is only one Red.

What to Expect

Bokenkamp relayed that “The Blacklist” season 6 is not coming back to delve into the narrative on who the impostor really is. If he is not the real Red, his identity is not going to be the focus in the upcoming episodes but it will be more about Liz.

“What’s going to be the most fun about next season is watching Liz peel back this onion and get to the truth of why this man entered her life five years ago,” Bokenkamp said.

The viewers will see how Liz will move forward from the shocking revelations and it is expected that things will get messy from there. She has that tendency to lean towards the dark side so what she will do next is something to look forward to.

Cast

“The Blacklist” season 6 will also feature Diego Klattenhoff (Donald Ressler), Harry Lennix (Harold Cooper), Amir Arison (Aram Mojtabai), Mozhan Marnò (Samar Navabi) and Hisham Tawfiq (Dembe).

Ryan Eggold, who played Liz’s husband Tom Keen, is not returning to reprise his role. He will not be coming back since he was tapped to be the lead star for NBC’s new medical drama called “New Amsterdam,” which is set to premiere on Sept. 25.

Air Date

“The Blacklist” season 6 went back to filming in July but there is no word when it will premiere. There were reports that it can be as early as January 2019 but NBC has to confirm this first. While waiting, fans can watch the previous seasons on Sky One and NOWTV as these stations are playing the show until Oct. 2.
