One of the problems people have after consuming alcohol is the bloating that results from it. Here are some drinks to avoid to steer clear of bloating.
As Christmas is only less than a week away, people have already started celebrating up until the holiday. With the number of parties, gatherings, and celebrations happening, it is no surprise that people end up indulging in food and drink a little bit more than usual. However, when it comes to drinking, many people do not just deal with hangovers the next day, they also have to deal with some bloating that comes from it. Express reports that certain alcoholic drinks may be the culprit of bloating.
Experts explain that the reason why alcohol can cause stomach bloating is that alcohol is naturally an irritant of the gastrointestinal lining. Alcohol also takes a toll on the liver as well, which also causes bloating, which is also a result of constipation. As to which drinks to avoid, experts say fizzy, alcoholic drinks like prosecco, wheat, and gluten-laden beer, fermented wine, and sugary cocktails. These types of drinks will only feed the bad bacteria found in the digestive system if the person lacks good bacteria to begin with, which results in bloating.
But as to which drinks can be taken, experts recommend spirits like gin, vodka, and tequila with carbonated water in case fizzy water does not cause the person to bloat.
Aside from avoiding certain drinks to keep from bloating, The Sun reports other tips to keep bloating at bay while still having a good time. First of which is by walking it off. Gentle exercise is a good trick to ease intestinal gas clearance, according to nutritional therapist Claire Barnes. Simply going for a walk can help burn off all the food taken as well as ease the bloating.
Another tip Barnes shares is to eat more fiber. Fiber helps keep bowel movements regular and also prevents constipation. Fiber, especially soluble fiber, feeds the good bacteria in the digestive system, which in turn, produces more nutrients.
A third tip Barnes shares is by doing relaxation exercises like yoga, pilates, and meditation. She explains that these exercises help in boosting nervous and digestive health. Some of the practices in yoga can also help reduce bloating as well.
