“Starfield” remains one of the most awaited games even though fans know barely anything about Bethesda’s new IP. However, a new set of rumors have emerged recently suggesting that Microsoft could hold an event in March where more details about the space epic could be unveiled.
‘Starfield’ announcement to happen sooner than expected?
It is almost three years since Bethesda confirmed it is working on an all-new IP after more than two decades. Considering the company’s video game portfolio, the title immediately became much-anticipated even though all Bethesda revealed about it is a few seconds of video teaser.
However, if the recent rumors would pan out, that could change as soon as next month. For one, renowned gaming journalist and insider Jeff Grubb had mentioned in a recent Games Beat podcast that Microsoft could be working on an online presentation next month. The event, still unannounced by the Xbox owner, is expected to focus on its acquisition of Bethesda’s parent company, ZeniMax Media.
Grubb told his listeners that it is still uncertain how comprehensive the rumored mid-March event would be and if it would have a similar format as Nintendo Direct. “They will talk about [the acquisiton] extensively, explain what it means for everybody and talk about the immediate future of both companies becoming one," Grubb said of the unannounced event. Since “Starfield” is one of the biggest upcoming titles from Bethesda, an event of that nature is likely to give some attention to the new IP.
‘Starfield’ release date planned for 2021?
Grubb’s tip was later followed by another claim from one of the known gaming leakers in ResetEra, who goes by the username NateDrake. They said that “there has been a strong hope & desire” from the developers to launch “Starfield” this year.
However, the source is uncertain if that timeline would be feasible for Bethesda, considering the potential effects of the pandemic on the game’s development progress and timelines. “But 2021 was the intended goal for release as of a few months ago,” the tipster added.
Of course, fans should take these with a grain of salt regardless of how reliable these sources usually are. Gamers can only hope that after close to three years, Bethesda would finally give more information and preview to the mysterious RPG set in space.
