‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ is expected to conclude filming on July as revealed by actor Mark Hamill. He is set to return as the iconic Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. Meanwhile, Daisey Ridley shared a new Instagram photograph from the filming set.
According to Collider, veteran ‘Star Wars’ actor Mark Hamill took to social media to announce that Rian Johnson’s follow-up to J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ will conclude principal photography on July 22, 2016.
Although his character only appeared during the final sequences of the preceding film, it was speculated that Luke will play an important role in the new film. Hamill’s character arc led him to a life of hermitage on an isolated planet.
Joining him are returning actors Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, and Carrie Fisher. Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran make up the new additions to the franchise. Filming for ‘Episode VIII’ began in 2015 and took place in locations such as Skellig Michael in Ireland and Pinewood Studios in England.
The film was originally set to premiere on May 2017 but Lucasfilm opted to push it back to a December release.
Meanwhile, Ridley shared a mysterious new image from on set on her personal Instagram account. According to Cinema Blend, the photograph looked to be coming from Skellig Michael but this is yet to be confirmed. The landscape seemed to be quite similar to that of the final scenes in ‘The Force Awakens’ when Rey meets Luke for the first time.
Ridley is set to return as lead protagonist Rey, a scavenger from the planet Jakku who discovers her Force-sensitive abilities. It was speculated that she will be mentored by Luke to succeed him as the next powerful Jedi knight.
‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film written and directed by Rian Johnson. It is scheduled to premiere in the United States on December 15 2017.
It is the sequel to 2015’s ‘The Force Awakens’, which became the highest-grossing installment in the Lucasfilm franchise. It broke several box office records after earning more than $2 billion worldwide.
