“Shrek 5” is taking a long time to arrive but fans should not worry because the film has been confirmed years ago. To be more exact, it was announced that the animated film has been chosen to go into production in February 2014.
The confirmation came shortly after NBCUniversal bought Dreamworks Studio and adapted some of its newly-acquired company’s popular movies. At that time, it was said that “Shrek 5” will begin filming soon but apparently, six years have past today, and everyone can see that no shooting ever took place.
Is the movie really coming or NBCUniversal changed its plans?
NBCUniversal let fans know that “Shrek 5” is still included in their planning table. In fact, to assure them, the company released an update in 2015. Steve Burke, Universal’s CEO, said that they are very intent in reviving some of Dreamworks’ animations and the “Shrek” franchise is one of those that they would like to produce. In 2016, it was rumored that the fifth movie has been scheduled to premiere in 2019 but this proved to be a false report.
Leaked filming schedule
Now, while the reported 2019 release did not happen, another report surfaced and it stated that “Shrek 5” will begin filming any time. It was not actually mentioned that the shooting will start but this was the assumption due to the leaked report stating the release date of the fifth installment.
Based on the detail printed on the note, “Shrek 5” has been scheduled to be out in cinemas on Sept. 23, 2022. Since there is an exact date, then filming should begin now if the production team wants to meet the deadline.
The completed script
Moreover, the start of filming news makes sense because the script of “Shrek 5” has long been completed, as per Den of Geek. Michael McCullers, the movie’s new writer also confirmed that he is done and it is ready when needed.
Plot predictions and theory
“Shrek 5” is going to be reinvented and most likely it will be upgraded to suit the taste of the modern moviegoers. The theme will be different and will be far from the fairy tale aura of the past “Shrek” movies. Based on a theory, the Shrek family may be featured living in a modern city.
