“Shrek 5” is taking a long time to arrive, but fans are still waiting patiently as always. This is one of the favorite animations from Dreamworks; thus, despite the long wait, the hopes that it will be in the theaters soon never cease.
This is the fifth sequel, but it was clarified that this is not the case. It was reported that “Shrek 5” will be a reboot, which means that its plotline will be changed. It will not pick up from the story where the fourth movie left off, but it will offer a totally different theme and plotline.
The reboot - Explained
“Shrek 5” was confirmed several years ago, and at that time, many think that they will see what will happen next after the “Shrek Forever After” ending. But it was learned that the producers would not continue with that story because NBCUniversal wants a totally new concept. It was then emphasized that the fifth “Shrek” movie is a reboot and not a sequel.
Collider reported that the characters would be the same, but they will introduce a new theme and plot. As already mentioned before, they want a modernized version of the movie, and this is what “Shrek 5” will be like.
To do this, the studio signed up Michael McCullers to be the new writer. They said he could give the movie some new twists and make everything new; thus, they are looking forward to a fresh finished product.
“He came up with a really great idea that they’re exploring,” Mike Mitchell, the director of ‘Shrek 2’, told the publication as he explained about McCullers’ assignment as the new writer. “With this detail, the viewers will see a different story that may be filled with twists and other explosive plots.”
Is it canceled?
Finally, “Shrek 5” is not canceled. It is still in the works and as proof. McCullers is done with the script, and Dreamworks already gave it a “go” signal. The directors and other staff are just busy with other animations that were scheduled for release ahead of the fifth “Shrek” movie that is why filming is not commencing yet. The leaked report stated that it is coming on Sept. 23, 2022.
