The filming of “Santa Clarita Diet” season 3 has wrapped up for some months now but Netflix has yet to announce when the new episodes will arrive. But there are speculations that Netflix might impose some changes by releasing the new episodes later than the previous release dates.
The first season premiered in early February 2017 while season 2 came out in late March 2018. “Santa Clarita Diet” season 3 will certainly be released in 2019, as clearly indicated in the show’s title card on Netflix, but when exactly that happens is still unknown.
Den of Geek suggests that Netflix might want to continue releasing new series installments at a later schedule than usual. This leads to the speculation that “Santa Clarita Diet” season 3 could be released in April. But there is also a big possibility that Netflix will not mess up with its previous February-March release date.
Even before Netflix ordered “Santa Clarita Diet” season 3 in May 2018, series creator Victor Fresco promised that there are still a lot more stories to unfold. Fresco also seemed confident that the third installment will happen that they started writing future plots even before they got the confirmation from Netflix.
“There's always more story. The whole season one took place over two weeks and season two takes place over two weeks, so they're still only about a month into this incredible change that they're going through,” Fresco told The Hollywood Reporter last April on the prospect of having “Santa Clarita Diet” season 3.
Leading star Drew Barrymore, who plays realtor-turned-undead protagonist Sheila Hammond, confirmed they finished filming “Santa Clarita Diet” season 3 last October. “I am proud to be a part of a show that is a metaphor for empowerment and a marriage where both man and woman are equal. And supportive of each other,” the actress wrote in an Instagram post confirming the end of season 3 production.
