After 13 long years, fans of Cartoon Network’s popular animated series “Samurai Jack” is scheduled to return this year.
Business Insider said “Samurai Jack” first debuted in 2001, and ran for four seasons until 2004. The animated series, created by Genndy Tartakovsky, features a samurai-wielding warrior named Jack (voiced by Phil LaMarr) who has been cast in the future by evil lord Aku. It has since won four Primetime Emmys, and has been lauded for its “epic scale and cinematic storytelling style.” Some of the scenes appears to pay homage to legendary directors David Lean and Akira Kurosawa.
Tartakovsky’s work in “Samurai Jack” has since led him to other projects, of which the most notable ones are the 2003 animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” of which it also won awards, and the Selena Gomez-starred “Hotel Transylvania” franchise. Tartakovsky is also behind another popular cartoon series “Dexter’s Laboratory.”
The official synopsis for Season 5 read as follows, “It’s been 50 years since we saw Samurai Jack and time has not been kind to him. Aku has destroyed every time portal and Jack has stopped aging, a side effect of time travel. It seems he is cursed to just roam the land for all eternity.”
In the trailer, Samurai Jack appears as if he’s gone through the wringer. Jack looked aged and rugged, which was a departure from his look in previous seasons, Den of Geek suggests.
“Samurai Jack” Season 5 will premiere on Saturday, March 11th on Adult Swim.
