The Samsung Galaxy S9 is set to receive a significant upgrade once the company rolls out the Experience 10 update that is based on the Android 9 Pie.
According to XDA Developers, the alpha builds of Experience 10 has reportedly revealed that the Samsung Galaxy S9 will be getting the Galaxy Note 9's Scene Optimizer feature for its cameras. This mode will allow users to use AI to identify elements in a photo and adjust the settings accordingly. It’s a really useful feature.
“It recognizes the environment you are in and will change the colors and white balance of the picture to make the end picture more appealing. Currently, there are about 20 different scenes it can recognize. These range from a portrait shot to a night-time waterfall. Scene optimizer works well but sometimes overexaggerates some colors and might not be perfect for all users,” Max Weinbach said in his report for XDA Developers.
Samsung has slowly been working on ways to bring features introduced in their newer smartphones to their older devices. A month ago, XDA Developers also found out they were bringing the Galaxy Note 9's Flaw Detection to the Samsung Galaxy S9. As the name implies, this feature is used to check each picture for flaws and it will inform the user if one is spotted.
“Flaw Detection is enabled by default in Samsung Experience 10 and just shows a little popup above the gallery icon in the camera app,” Weinbach noted.
This is an interesting strategy for Samsung because smartphone manufacturers tend to force customers to buy newer phones to get the latest features. By doing this, the company is keeping their loyal users happy.
No official roll-out date for the Experience 10 update has been confirmed as of the moment, so Samsung Galaxy S9 users will have to wait a little longer for the chance to use these new features.
