‘Salem Season 3, Episode 9 Spoilers: “Saturday Mourning” – Anna Opens Door to Hell to Release Devil; Countess Marburg Continues Tormenting Sebastian

Title card for WGN America's 'Salem'

‘Salem’ season 3’s episode 9, titled “Saturday Mourning,” is set to feature Anne as she attempts to open the door to hell to release the devil. Meanwhile, Countess Marburg continues to torment Sebastian from beyond the grave.

The brief synopsis for “Saturday Mourning” posted on TV Guide reads, “Everyone reveals their true colors and some hearts get broken in the process.” The synopsis didn’t give away much details but it seems that more drama will explode in the incoming episode of WGN America’s supernatural fiction television series inspired by the infamous Salem witch trials from the 17th century.

The promo for episode 9 teases that Anne Hale (Tamzin Merchant) will unleash the door to hell and allow the devil (Oliver Bell) to walk the Earth once more. The devil puts Anne in a trance to trick her into opening the door but it seems that Cotton Mather (Seth Gabel) will be able to stop her.

In addition to the fight against evil, it seems that Countess Marburg (Lucy Lawless) will continue to torment her son Sebastian (Joe Doyle) by reminding him that Mary Sibley (Janet Montgomery) doesn’t really love him. Sebastian will also need to find a way to take apart the clock that holds the powerful yet deadly red mercury to prevent it from destroying all of Salem.

According to the recap of “Friday’s Nights” posted on Den of Geek, the preceding episode featured a showdown between John Alden (Shane West) and Beelzebub himself. Although John successfully killed The Sentinel by means of a magical dagger, Tituba (Ashely Madekwe) attempted to resurrect the devil after he was torn apart by Mary and the hive of Essex witches.

‘Salem’ season 3’s episode 9, titled “Saturday Mourning,” is scheduled to air on WGN America on January 18, 2017. It was directed by Jennifer Lynch and written by Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson. It will be followed by “Black Sunday” scheduled for January 25.
