Many of President Joe Biden's fans were dissatisfied with his performance at the debate versus Donald Trump on June 27. They felt that the 81-year-old had spoken too quietly and had been unclear in his arguments at various points throughout the debate.
Jim Sciutto, the anchor of CNN, and Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the Chief Medical Correspondent for the network, had a conversation on Friday, July 5, on whether or not there might have been a health reason for his behavior at the highly anticipated event.
Gupta observed that Biden displayed a number of symptoms that were cause for concern. These symptoms included "confused rambling; sudden loss of concentration in the middle of a sentence; halting speech and absence of facial animation resulting at times in a flat, open-mouthed expression."
Gupta indicated that Biden should undergo more cognitive testing, despite the fact that he allegedly went through neurological testing in February and returned with a clear bill of health.
"If he were my patient, frankly, if he were my father, I would advocate for this sort of testing again in large part because there might be something you can do about it," Gupta told Sciutto, as per OK Magazine.
These events take place just a few days after the president made the announcement that he would not be withdrawing from his campaign in order to make room for another Democratic candidate to run in his place.
"I'm in this race to the end, and we’re going to win because when Democrats unite, we will always win. Just as we beat Donald Trump in 2020, we’re going to beat him again in 2024," Biden said at the time.
"There is no one I’d rather be in this battle with than all of you. So, let’s link arms. Let’s get this done. You, me, the Vice President. Together,” he furthered, The Hill reported.
During his attendance at a fundraiser in Virginia earlier this month, President Biden also provided an explanation for one of the reasons for his lackluster performance during the debate.
"I wasn’t very smart. I decided to travel around the world a couple of times … shortly before the debate. I didn’t listen to my staff … and then I almost fell asleep on stage. It’s not an excuse but an explanation,” Biden admitted of his busy schedule.
The second time that Biden and Trump are scheduled to face each other on the stage of the debate is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 10. ABC News will serve as the anchor for the discussion.
