“Sherlock” season 5 is one of the BBC Network’s most popular dramas. It features two of the most popular detective characters and it has been rebooted a lot of times already. Each time that it will return on TV, it is always a hit so no wonder that the viewers are waiting for the next installment after season 4 ended in 2017.
Steven Moffat and Matt Gattis are not ready to give up the series yet
It is surely taking a long time for “Sherlock” season 5 to arrive and some fans even think that it was already canceled. However, this is not the case because even without BBC Network’s renewal announcement yet, the detective drama still has a high chance of returning on broadcast since it did not have a proper conclusion yet.
What’s more, the series’ showrunners Matt Gattis and Steven Moffat clearly stated that they are still interested in doing “Sherlock” season 5 and they will continue to do so because they know the show has a lot of supporters. However, the two admitted that they still don’t know when they could begin filming again because all of them have been busy.
“Mark has been doing other stuff as well, so we haven't sat down and had a proper talk about what we would do with another series," Moffat told Digital Spy. “I sort of assumed we'll come back."
Martin Freeman is willing to return but there’s a condition
Unfortunately, Martin Freeman who plays John H. Watson hinted that he could give up his role in “Sherlock” season 5. He said that he could still agree to do it but there is a condition.
“If it’s something really special, and if it’s something really meaty and interesting, then I think we’d all be open to that. It always felt like an event, so if we do more, it has to be worthy of that,” Martin told Collider. “We couldn’t come back with something that was quite good. It would have to feel really, really special. It was that kind of show.”
Finally, “Sherlock” season 5 is predicted to return in 2022 is things work out fine with the staff and the cast members.
