Pizza Hut needs more employees and is looking to hire around 40,000 individuals before this year ends. As part of its plans to hire more people, the pizza restaurant chain is holding a virtual hiring conference this week titled “Pathways to Possibility.”
It was reported that with this conference, people would be inspired to apply, and for its current staff, the event could further motivate them to work for a long time in the company, as per the Restaurant Business Online.
Some of the invited speakers for the conference include “Top Chef” participant Tre Wilcox, Michael Wigge, a motivational speaker, and Chequan Lewis, who is Pizza Hut’s chief equity officer. The event will also feature successful franchisees and employees who worked their way from the bottom to reach higher posts in the company.
“About 70% of our restaurant managers started as team members, as cooks, as delivery drivers,” Cristi Lockett, Pizza Hut chief people officer, said in an interview. “It is not only possible to grow in this business but you can do it with pretty quick speed.”
At any rate, Pizza Hut is one of the restaurant chains in the country that are in need of more workers. The labor shortage is lasting longer than hoped, so companies are also competing to fill up available job posts in their respective firms.
As the competition in the hiring of workers grows, many companies today have already issued wage hikes to draw more applicants. Additional benefits were also offered, including huge bonuses, but still, the shortage of workers remained.
Lockett said that at Pizza Hut, what they needed the most was to find new cooks and drivers. She said that it has been more difficult to get applicants for the said job because they have other competitors such as DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub.
In an effort to encourage more people to apply, Lockett further said that credentials are not needed for applicants as the company will train them. She added that anyone could do it and make a successful career out of it.
Finally, Nasdaq reported that Yum! Brands’ Pizza Hut will hire 40,000 permanent team members who will be deployed to outlets across the United States. Interested parties may apply for positions at corporate and franchised restaurants.
