“Orange Is the New Black” was renewed for three seasons back in 2016, with season 6 broadcasting just this July on Netflix. With all the episodes having been released for broadcast on the streaming giant, “Orange Is the New Black” season 6 just gave fans one of the most confusing cliffhangers for the show, with the show's main protagonist Piper Chapman, played by Taylor Schilling, being given an early release.
The show's producers have already talked about how they want to give Piper a proper sendoff by showing fans what life after prison would be like for the former inmate. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Tara Herrmann says that the past six seasons may have been enough time to appropriately show what the real Piper Kerman, the person that Piper Chapman is based on, had gone through during her incarceration.
“Orange Is the New Black” season 7 will most probably be looking at the post-prison dynamic that Piper Chapman will have to deal with. Fans will remember that Chapman was recently married in prison to Alex Vause, one of the longtime reasons why Chapman was in prison in the first place.
To add to the strain, Vause has been sentenced to another four years in prison, which Piper will have to take into account considering her recent release. We might also get moments in season 7 where Piper will have to pick up the pieces of the life she left behind when she was in prison.
Should everything go well for Chapman, “Orange Is the New Black” season 7 will hopefully explore if Piper Chapman will follow a similar path as her real-life counterpart, Piper Kerman, in pursuing prison reform as an advocacy.
With “Orange Is the New Black” season 6 just recently available for streaming on Netflix, expect the show's seventh season to be available by summer of 2019.
