The pirates, especially the Straw Hats, will be at the center of the action as the battle in Onigashima fully breaks in “One Piece” chapter 988. Big Mom charges at Luffy while most of his nakama helps him against the Yonko and others help in saving Momonosuke.
‘One Piece’ chapter 988: Luffy, other Straw Hats gets in action
It can be recalled that Luffy and Big Mom accidentally saw each other when the battle started as the Scabbards attacked Kaido in the previous chapter. Their interaction will continue in “One Piece” chapter 988 showing that it is the reason Luffy is hindered from joining the attack on the Beasts Pirates leader.
“One Piece” chapter 988 leaks indicate that Big Mom attacks Luffy with Elbaf no Yari: Ikoku that is strong enough to punch a hole through Kaido’s castle and the force of the attack even reaching the sea. Luffy is able to dodge the attack, but Big Mom also manages to summon Zeus back even though he does not want to leave Nami’s side.
Big Mom wants to get her revenge on Nami by using Zeus’s thunder in killing Luffy’s nakama, but Brook and Franky arrive at the scene to launch some attack to distract Charlotte Linlin. Brook cuts Zeus in half and Franky throws a motorcycle right into Big Mom’s face in “One Piece” chapter 988.
Earlier in the chapter, Momonosuke is freed and it turns out it was Sanji who sneaked in and untied him from his crucifixion. Sanji is doing this after being impressed by Momonosuke’s bravery, but King tries to stop his effort. Sanji’s quick thinking makes him throw Momonosuke into Shinobu, who is near where they are, but he will now have to fight with King who transforms into a Pteranodon in “One Piece” chapter 988.
Some other Straw Hats have yet to see action in “One Piece” chapter 988. Fans may recall that Jinbe and Robin were together in the audience before the fight broke, so it is interesting if this duo will get into a fight in the next chapters.
‘One Piece’ chapter 988: The second member of Numbers appear
Another notable highlight in “One Piece” chapter 988 is the debut of the Numbers. Before the festival in Onigashima started, the manga hinted at the Numbers being some of the most terrifying creatures and being giants in nature.
The leaked translations say “One Piece” chapter 988 will feature the second member of Numbers to be introduced in the series simply named Number 7. He looks similar to an Oni, an ogre-like creature in Japanese folklore. Like Hatcha, Number 7 is also gigantic with a height reaching the belly of Kaido in dragon form.
