Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ: NVDA) shares surged by 5% on Wednesday, adding $13 billion to its market capitalization, as supported by this article from the site Investors. Mizuho Securities analysts attributed the rally to news that CEO Jensen Huang had completed selling his stock, a plan he initiated earlier in the year.
While Nvidia shares rose sharply, Mizuho noted that there were no substantial developments regarding the company’s demand, profit margins, or its much-anticipated Blackwell chips that would typically drive such a rally.
Retail Traders Seen as Key Players
Mizuho analysts suggested that retail investors and quantitative traders might have used the news as an impetus to buy shares, potentially driving the stock’s surge, as can also be seen here in this article from AllSides. They emphasized, however, that insider stock sales, such as Huang’s, generally "never come up" as a concern for institutional investors. “It doesn't take much to whip up excitement in NVDA,” Mizuho commented, highlighting the influential role retail traders play in Nvidia's stock price movements.
Broader AI Growth and Investor Concerns
The firm addressed investor worries regarding Nvidia’s long-term growth, particularly around capital expenditures in artificial intelligence (AI). Some buy-side investors are questioning whether AI-related spending in 2026 will be sufficient to sustain Nvidia's forecasted 21% revenue growth.
However, Mizuho pointed to a recent Bain & Company report forecasting that the market for AI-related products could reach nearly $1 trillion by 2027. The report anticipates annual growth of 40-55% for AI services and hardware, potentially mitigating concerns about long-term AI spending.
Nvidia's Long-Term Outlook Supported by AI Investments
Mizuho concluded that Nvidia is well-positioned for long-term growth, particularly amid ongoing investments in AI. As companies like Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) continue to ramp up spending on AI development and data center infrastructure, Nvidia stands to benefit from this industry-wide momentum.
While the recent stock rally may have been sparked by speculative retail activity, Mizuho maintains that the company’s fundamentals and outlook within the AI sector remain strong.
