A recent press release by Nintendo revealed that the new Switch can entertain up to ten consoles simultaneously through wired LAN, as opposed to eight in a previous announcement.
Nintendo Switch is a slim, black device designed primarily as a home console for gamers to have the main console unit inserted onto a docking station to connect to a television. Gamers can use the console like a tablet through its LCD touchscreen or set it up as a standalone tabletop mode for multiple players.
According to the press release, the LAN play feature for the new video game Splatoon 2 enables the console support. But IGN noted in an article that eight can technically partake in the game, and at least two can join in spectator mode.
Nintendo explained, "Connecting up to 10 docked consoles via wired LAN will be well-suited for proper tournaments, while for more casual get-togethers up to eight players can still enjoy a quick game via the previously revealed local wireless connection."
"Private Battle Spectator View is a new functionality that will allow up to two people to participate in a Private Battle as cameramen to observe the 8-player battle from multiple angles," Nintendo added.
Gamespot believe that this tournament-minded alternative could very well suggest that Nintendo will be open to a 10-console support for Switch in the future.
