Finnish Brewery Ant Brew is offering the Wasted Potential Imperial Stout, produced by using goose feces to smoke malt.
The microbrewery's home city, Lahti, which was named the European Green Capital 2021, wanted to celebrate with a beer that represents their "wasteless circular economy" credentials, leading to the collaboration with Ant Brew.
The goose droppings are gathered from local parks, making them cleaner while coming up with the special edition summer beverage.
According to Ant Brew's Kari Puttonen, working with the Lahti Green Capital allowed them to constantly develop ways to utilize new brewing ingredients and are made them unafraid to think outside of the box.
Other releases in the Wasted Potential series utilize slightly more pedestrian ingredients like wild herbs and food waste.
Puttonen added that the beer series is their way of creating important discussions about food waste, waste utilization, urban farming, and local and wild food among beer enthusiasts.
