“Neon Genesis Evangelion” is well known in the anime industry as one of the progenitors of entire genres and styles that have influenced an entire generation of viewers and animators. While the series has been available in a variety of forms, Netflix has recently announced that it will be listing the property. Is this a signal that a sequel is on the way or is this just another way for Netflix to expand its library?
Anime fans know “Neon Genesis Evangelion” for a lot of things, one of which is the stellar plot of the series. In terms of the narrative aspect alone, this series stands a head above most other high-budget productions to come out of the industry. The fact that Netflix is adding it to its library is a great opportunity for a new generation of anime fans in the west to enjoy it.
On that note, there are some who speculate that the addition of “Neon Genesis Evangelion” to the ever-expanding listings at Netflix could lead to a sequel of the series. Unfortunately, there have been no official confirmations with regards to this aspect, so this is likely just wishful thinking on the part of the fans.
As for the decision to add the series to Netflix, this appears to be a part of an attempt by the streaming service to increase the diversity of what it has to offer. Right now, its offerings in terms of anime are limited compared to other platforms like Crunchyroll. If it wants to remain relevant to users, especially with the looming threat of other streaming services on the horizon, adding properties like “Neon Genesis Evangelion” only makes sense.
“Neon Genesis Evangelion” will be coming to Netflix in the spring of 2019. Fans of the anime and the fantasy genre, in general, will want to watch out for this one.
