There is an ongoing campaign by fans of the futuristic drama “Sense8” to get the show a third installment. Screenrant said “Sense8,” which was created by “The Matrix”’s Wachowski siblings Lana and Lilly and J. Michael Straczynski was among the unlucky shows that got the boot by Netflix following its Season 2 and Christmas special. Fans got the shock of their lives when the show got canceled, denying the return of the stellar cast that made up the mentally and emotionally-linked “Sense8s” - Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Tina Desai, Tuppence Middleton, Max Riemelt, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, and Brian J. Smith.
On Change.org, a new petition was created to help save the show for at least one more season. Part of the petition read, “We understand whatever the reasons could have been, yet we believe that as a visual product, “Sense 8” does have all these values we recognize, and has perfectly managed to trasmit it to the viewers. It is not just a tv show, to watch for fun, instead of just being that, Sense 8 has given the world a new way of seeing others: with acceptance, love and understanding.”
Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos explained this week that despite the show’s critical acclaim, it was still not enough for them to keep the show running for budget reasons. In a conversation with comedian Jerry Seinfield, Sarandos said, “Relative to what you spent, are people watching it? That is pretty traditional. When I say that, a big expensive show for a huge audience is great. A big, expensive show for a tiny audience is hard even in our model to make that work very long.”
It has been noted that “Sense8” costs USD9 million to produce one episode.
Will the petition change the minds at Netflix? Digital Spy doesn’t think so, as evident in the streaming service’s official response. It read, "To our “Sense8” family. We've seen the petitions. We've read the messages. We know you want to #RenewSense8, and we wish we could #BringBackSense8 for you. The reason we've taken so long to get back to you is because we've thought long and hard here at Netflix to try to make it work, but unfortunately we can't. Thank you for watching and hope you'll stay close with your cluster around the world. #SensatesForever"
