“Narcos: Mexico Season 2” has started production just a month after its prequel dropped on Netflix. The previous installment set up all the necessary information that is integral in the second season’s plotline and it is expected that the conflict is going to be a far bloodier this time.
Now that Kiki Camarena (Michael Pena) is dead, “Narcos: Mexico Season 2” will prioritize its storyline around the search for those who are responsible for the agent’s murder. Executive producer and showrunner Eric Newman is careful in creating the series’ narrative as he wants to portray everything in a relatively realistic manner.
They even have the real agent James Kuykendall acting as a consultant for the show in order to honor Camarena and the other operatives who are trying to put an end into this conflict. Kuykendall said that watching the first season of the police procedural brought out some painful memories, particularly during the abduction and subsequent torture of his friend. “Narcos: Mexico Season 2” will be exploring the United States’ effort in bringing justice for its agent; an effort that’s called Operating Leyenda.
The investigation will be spearheaded by one Walt Breslin (Scoot McNairy), the narrator of the previous installment and the agent that was revealed during the finale. Kuykendall said that he doesn’t know any DEA agent who reminds him of Walt’s demeanor, which means this is the first time the show is employing a main character who’s not a real DEA operative. Be that as it may, Walt will still helm the operation in “Narcos: Mexico Season 2” and will hunt down Felix Gallardo (Diego Luna). As for Kuykendall himself, he hopes that the series will have an impact on the drug war that is still raging in Mexico and the United States.
“Hopefully, it will embarrass the Mexican government and the Mexican people will exert some influence, as much as they can, to change things. They have a new president now. ‘Narcos’ is a very popular show and whether or not it will affect things or have an impact? I certainly hope so,” the former DEA operative said. As for when “Narcos: Mexico Season 2” will be released, Netflix hasn’t announced anything yet given that production is in its early stages.
