“Narcos” Season 4 has already been released in its entirety and those who have seen it know exactly the origins of the drug cartel in Mexico. They also know the fate of Kiki Camarena (Michael Pena) and the subsequent plans to hunt down those responsible for his murder.
"I'm going to tell you a story. But I'll be honest. It doesn't have a happy ending. In fact, it doesn't have an ending at all,” the narrator drawled. From there, the story unfolds and “Narcos” Season 4 highlighted the violence and corrupt institutions that sprouted all over Mexico. And at the center of it all stood the main character that dominated the narrative since the first season of the installment: drugs.
“Narcos” Season 4 ended with the United States trying and failing to provide justice for the death of Agent Camarena. At least, in the traditional sense of attaining justice.
Bound by border regulations and the slow turning of the bureaucratic wheel, the U.S. government decided it’s going to try a different route. A bloodier route. Called Operation Leyenda, the United States sent new breeds of agents over at Mexico to deal with the situation. “Narcos” Season 4 ended when, at long last, the narrator from the first episode was finally revealed.
The show only referred to him as Walt and didn’t appear in the rolling credits. The character is played by Scoot McNairy and seems to be the head of the manhunt that is to occur in “Narcos” Season 5. The character isn’t your typical DEA agent, either. He’s scruffy looking, seems to have a laid-back demeanor, and exudes an air of someone who is seasoned at killing people. And just like how it opened up with a warning, “Narcos” Season 4 ended on the same note.
“It didn’t matter if we met him or not. Kiki Camarena was one of us. He was ours. And when he was killed, we knew we were in a war,” Walt said with a grim look about him. “Now it was our turn. Pretty soon, they were going to know…they were in one too.” Overall, “Narcos” Season 4 set up all the necessary details needed for the upcoming bloody conflict. A conflict that has endured to this very day.
